Community Life

TEAM DOX

At Doxology everyone who comes is a valuable member of the team. Come once, you're our guest. Come twice, and you're part of the family. Come three times, and you can make the coffee!

At the same time, some of us feel called to step into a more public level of commitment to serve Doxology. We call these people Stewards. Our Stewards provide financial and visionary oversight, and embrace common disciplines that are necessary for personal growth in Christ and for the building of the faith community.** The common disciplines are:

  • Attending Sunday worship gatherings, usually at Doxology;
  • Active and regular practice of Christian disciplines, such as prayer, scripture reading, meditation, fasting, and worship.
  • Giving proportionately of income, to Doxology, beginning at ten percent;
  • Making a retreat once a year, if possible with Doxology;
  • Engaging in apprenticeship relationships, both as the mentor and as apprentice;
  • Attending Stewards' meetings regularly;
  • Expressing commitment to discovery and use of gifts, to education and growth in the faith, and to the pastoring and support of the community as a whole in the ongoing life of Doxology; and
  • Reviewing the Stewards' commitment with the Senior Pastor or another Steward and spending an hour in meditation prior to Recommitment Sunday in January.
  • Doing some, or all, of this at Dox already? Why not think about making your commitment public? Of course, while anyone at Doxology can and should consider becoming a steward, people do not move into Stewardship quickly. Some choose to be active participants in the community and make significant contributions to its life without becoming Stewards.
